Suski navigates through dubby waters and ethereal, often minimalistic soundscapes, be it in the form of house or techno. Her DJ journey began from DIY underground parties in Helsinki around 2012, having previously been introduced to dance music during various stints in Berlin between 2006 and 2010.

Emma Valtonen has been dabling with music since her pre-teens, geeking out on genres, playing guitar and bass in bands. But it was while in Uni when she got involved with house and techno through a student organisation called Entropy.

If you've been out in Helsinki in the past years, there's a high chance you've danced to these two playing, either solo or back-to-back. And there's a high chance you've left smiling after the night.

Finnish legend Ender was one of the first djs to play house and techno when these strands of dance music made their way to Helsinki in the late 80s. That’s to say he’s been operating the decks for over 30 years. As a (former?) member of the (now defunct?) legendary outfit Hannulelauri, together with Lauri Soini, and nu-jazz ensemble Nuspirit Helsinki, he now mostly focuses on writing music for motion picture and producing for other artists, among other activities like helping out young musicians develope their skills.

Since Ender doesn’t play as frequently as he used to, this is a rare chance to hear a true national treasure open up his record bag for an entire night. What will come out of there? Only one way to find out.

As long time staples of Helsinki nightlife — Irene Kostas and Fummer have been playing quality dance music for the people for some 20 years, warming up for international guests at Kaiku, Ääniwalli and other venues in addition to their own regular nights at Siltanen.

Irene is highly influenced by music outside the traditional western realm, such as contemporary dance sonics from the eastern cost of the Mediterranean and areas surrounding the Black Sea. Primitivo hypnotico is the name of the game. Hometown homerunner Fummer meshes together the best from acid transmission, techno utopias and electro emissions, with a record bag so deep you’re sure to sink in (and you will like it). Together these two are sure to whip up a unique collage of dance musics for a fun Friday night.

This Friday we welcome the Vladivostok-born, Moscow-based musical connoisseur Yakovets to celebrate the release of his debut EP. Having deejayed in Helsinki a bunch of times already, he could almost be considered a local (almost). Yakovets himself works on strengthening the musical and cultural bond between Russia and Finland, working with St. Petersburg venue Tancploshadka to bring in DJs from Finland. Yakovets’ ties with Helsinki have resulted in his debut release on Elossa Records, which is run by one of our city’s hardest working DJs, Marc Fred.

This will be Yakovets’ first live performance outside of his native country (woop), with Marc Fred and local eccentric Handshaking accompanying him for the night. Expect everything from syntheziser disco to classicly tinged house music to obscure funk and beyond.

A very special night ahead on Saturday as doors open already at 21, and at 22, Helsinki-based band Mortar Devotions play their debut live show. Consisting of Aleksei Tsernjavski, Manuele Frau & Nicholas Pucciarelli, the group’s cinematic and heady take on music is brilliant in its simplicity and entracing to say the least. With STROOM, the label he runs together with close friends, he’s helped shine a light on a lost piece of European DIY music history. DVS1 is doing much more for techno than playing brilliant sets for people to lose themselves into. With an engagement in dance music spanning over two decades, he’s been a clubber, DJ, promoter, club owner and sound engineer, gaining more insight into the inner works than most people do in their lifetimes. In the fall of last year he launched S.O.S (Support Organize Sustain), an independent iniative to promote community and artistry in the ever-commercializing industry that is dance music.

With a lazer sharp focus on why he does what he does, it’s hard to think of anyone in his position with a more dedicated attitude. A few notes about Jimi Tenor. His earliest releases came out on seminal labels Sähkö and Warp, with 18 albums to his name in total. Jimi has worked with Tony Allen, Nicole Willis, and countless other talented musicians. He makes his own intsruments and teaches other people how to do the same. He has also worked on films and is one of the founders of Kontula Electronic festival. All in all, he's a national gem, and we're quite excited about his live performance at Post Bar on Friday (actually really thrilled tbh).

A Room With A View is an audiovisual compilation supported by Together Alone, an initiative launched by the Finnish Cultural and Academic Institutes, offering support for art projects documenting the state of emergency caused by Covid-19. The compilation features tracks by Maria Korkeila, alias emkay, and collaborators: Sansibar, River Yarra’s Synthetic Band, Niko Hallikainen and Movies Are Real.

The confines of one’s own abode have become painstakingly familiar to most of us in the passing few months. Solitude, solitariness and confinement have marked the spring of 2020 as life has been halted by the covid-19 pandemic. In A Room with a View Maria Korkeila and her cohorts have approached the task of giving form to these sentiments through the one channel which has been absent from life lately; the so-called nightlife. If we consider nightlife as an entity, certain patterns often emerge as giving structure and shape to it – it often has an end a beginning which act as place holders for what can be characterized as a ”peak-time”. The difference with the confinement era has been that you never know when it’s peak-time.

To approach A Room with a View one can turn to the thought of French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy whose writings on community and communication offer reflections on this task of being together apart and articulating this aloneness qua togetherness. The absence of the physical presence of the other is not a negation leading us to an emptiness – it is only an exposition, an opening, a vista if you will. Hence, A Room with a View can be seen as a glance towards a future in a time marked with stillness. For in times of uncertainty, dancing and poetry are essential tools to communicate, whether together or separate, a view persists in the motion of body and thought. “
