The event is a live essay, an experiment in which six intriguing individuals engage in a collective conversation, reflecting on themes that define contemporary life – such as the significance of novelty, the crisis of quality, irony and ugliness, nostalgia and nonsense, and the tension between comfort-seeking and effort.

This ‘live essay’ - a fluid, thought-provoking panel discussion — features five intriguing individuals who engage in collective conversation together with the audience, exploring the defining questions of the moment we live in.

    Pietari Pyykönen, creator of Oui oui, will be joined by Taija Roiha, Arttu Seppänen, Mia Wennerstrand, Samuli Knuuti, and Hilla Körkkö to explore topics like elitism, the crisis of meaning, and the death of nuance. Afterwards, we’ll hang out and debrief with a selection of songs chosen by Oui oui readers, followed by Ada Aik who will curate the music for the rest of the evening.

    The stefanlindfors® catalogue features unexpected designs with glassware, lighting and furniture. Now set in a real life environment and sprinkled where most suitable.

    The artists curating the music have honed their craft for ages and it will be heard: Tuomas Toivonen (from Giant Robot fame) has releases on legendary Keys of Life, the sub-label of Sähkö Recordings. Ambient, experimentality, and bridge-crossing are the keywords here.

    Kristiina Männikkö has veteran and queen status in Helsinki as well, from years of being the selector in clubs, setting the mood where ever and whenever. It’s loving, powerful, and moody.

    LIVE AT THE BAR is an early evening concert concept. 

    Electroacoustic music and live improvisation meet at the heart of the city’s nightlife.

    The evening, curated by Tara Jovana Valkonen, opens with Jovanka Trbojević’s Le fantôme du vent — music of invisible kinetic energy, built on an electronic tape created by attaching a microphone to a figure skater’s skate to capture the sounds of gliding, jumping, and ice.

    Limite Circulaire, for flute and tape, explores the boundary between body and machine, between impulse and control: how can sound circulate, collide, and ultimately break through its own limits?

    Finally, Pierre Jodlowski’s intense collaboration with clarinetist Ángel Molinos combines live electronics, amplified bass clarinet, and virtuosic improvisation. 

    The concert travels from ghostly spatiality toward a furious outburst of energy — until the beast is slowly unleashed.

Artist of the month

Justus Arvelin

The message of the January ‘25 poster is: “Remember to smell flowers.” It is done by graphic designer and disc jockey Justus Arvelin (2000), who recently returned to Helsinki from New York. The piece features Justus’ late cat Paavo, who knew how to dream of every moment. We should all focus on making the present worth dreaming about. The original artwork is a 4-colour risograph print done at School of Visual Arts in New York at the end of Justus’ exchange studies.

Artist of the month

Lauri Toikka

Lauri Toikka is a type & graphic designer based in Helsinki. He was the Graphic Designer of the year in 2020. 

Lauri describes the work done for Post Bar: ”A selection of shapes – organic, mineral and imagined. The collection features a variety of textures resembling rocks, crystals, fossils, planets and elastic forms.”

Artist of the month

Kurt Woerpel

Kurt Woerpel is a designer and art director living and working in Brooklyn, NY. In 2018 he assisted in the redesign and relaunch of Interview Magazine under Richard Turley, after which he served as art director until 2024. Now he maintains a full time freelance practice contributing to projects for clients like Apple and Adidas alongside community-run projects like Brooklyn Art Book Fair. In addition to commercial work Kurt is also a partner in TXTbooks, an independent publisher of Risograph zines since 2014. His work has been recognized by the Type Directors Club and Young Guns awards among others.

Kurt describes the work done for Post Bar: “The area surrounding our studio in Bushwick, NY is semi-industrial zone with little to no foot-traffic at night, making it a prime place for people to drop stolen or otherwise derelict vehicles. This poster, a mixture of 3D scan and blender, envisions one of these cars in the last hours leading up to its abandonment.”

Artist of the month

Taika Mannila

Taika Mannila is a Helsinki-based multidisciplinary artist, illustrator, and writer who is currently trying really hard to figure out if a girl can party and write a book at the same time. She’s known for dreaming and joking, and has been a “both hands in the air while playing” type of DJ for, like, a thousand years. Lately, she has found comfort in knowing that Charli XCX is interested in the concept of staying too long (at the party).

Taika describes the work done for Post Bar: “This is how I imagine the Patron Saint of Hot Girl Reading: flapping her angel wings as she lights yet another cigarette. I also have a strong gut feeling that Sexy Angel Summer is loading around the corner! Plus, I just read in my horoscope that May will be a magical time…”

Ezra Miller

Ezra Miller
B. 1996 – Chicago, IL
Lives and Works in New York City

Ezra Miller is a multi-talented digital artist. Self-taught as a programmer and image-maker, his interest in using cutting-edge graphics programming techniques unifies his practice. A deep engagement with painting, photography, and art history inform his approach to creating infinite, real-time generative artworks with complex feedback networks of shaders. He is fascinated with AI image and video generation and has integrated AI as a core part of his practice. With notable ties to the fashion industry and electronic music world, Miller has worked on a number of high-profile runway shows, in-store installations, and digital campaigns for luxury brands, as well as live audio-visual performances with musicians, album covers, websites, and music videos.

Artist of the month

Sarah Lim

Sarah Lim is an illustrator born and raised in Sydney, Australia, currently living and working in Chinatown, New York City. Her detailed graphite drawings depict a psychedelic casino of the mind, rendering the tensions between desire, danger and chance. In addition to her illustration practice, she is the art director for the Honey Trap label and party series with Amelia Holt.

Sarah describes the work done for Post Bar: “all graphite drawing about how the body is a state of mind…”

Artist of the month

Antti Kekki

Antti Kekki is a Helsinki-based designer who enjoys bold colours, improvisation and handicraft. Antti’s works usually rely on simple collage technique in which different forms are cut from paper and carefully arranged to playful ensembles. Kekki has collaborated notably with Marimekko since 2019 and has designed nearly 50 prints for the design brand.

Antti describes the work done for Post Bar: ”Poster is freely inspired by Kekri – the Finnish-Karelian autumn festival. The shapes cut from paper symbolize harvest and spells.”

Artist of The Month

Perttu Mäkelä

Perttu Mäkelä (b. 1979) is a Helsinki-based painter and musician. He is currently completing his BFA at the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki. Over the past five years, he has created flower meadows at his summer cottage, inviting bees and butterflies. These meadows have become a refuge and a counterbalance to everyday life. Mäkelä works with acrylics, chalk and coloured pencils on both primed and unprimed canvas, building surfaces that breathe much like the meadows that inspire them.

Perttu describes the work done for Post Bar:
“I painted this piece in the summer after returning from Solstice Festival on Ruka fjell, those breathtaking landscapes,
music and the midnight sun deeply inspired me. When the opportunity to create this poster came, the choice was easy.”
