AJ Fusco is an American artist based in Helsinki. His work combines painting and drawing with digital processes and a conceptual approach. Informed by the human tendency to seek patterns, meaning, or forms, even in the absence of a concrete object, his work is characterized by visual indeterminacy— images that suggest recognizable subject matter but elude clear identification. By eschewing specific motifs while retaining pictorial elements associated with representational art, his work seeks to embody the in-between, the queer, and the unclassifiable. Fusco describes the work done for Post Bar: "I wanted to celebrate the start of the Halloween season, and I chose this graphite drawing from my archive because it variously evokes writhing, ragged flesh, spiraling flames, and the bones of bare trees against the sky."
