POLANCO
When one thinks about Bali, first things to come to mind are surfing and that friend of yours who left there for a year and came back woke. Bali has a well kept secret though, and that secret is Dea. This guy has to be the funkiest person on the island. Even Gilles Peterson is a fan. So much so that Dea has by now played at numerous venues around Europe despite being a relatively unknown name. But selection speaks for all, and oh Dea lord what a selection it is, sourced from record shops in Indonesia and all over Europe. Dea holds a residency and is partly responsible for the musical direction at Bali’s Potatohead Beach Club. He has also created Indonesia’s only audiophile space, Studio Eksotika, using the knowledge he gathered from studying audio engineering and sound design in London as a young fellow.
Love Potion is arguably the coolest thing to happen in Stockholm night life in recent years. It’s a party series and digital label established by Polanco, who together with his partners Nadja Chatti and Hugo organize wonderful parties in interesting locations anywhere in Stockholm. Latest party series was held on a rooftop in the city’s centre. Love Potion’s dedicated following and not-too-conventional approach in lineup curation keeps the vibe right and the music tight. Polanco himself is a lover of the groove, the soul, the funk, playing anything from recent danish house to Theo Parrish to early 80s disco and synth workouts. A perfect fit for warming up Dea.
